This was a cold compression test, not a hot one. Turns out my rings had worn out - allowing the piston to start rubbing on the sidewalls, the engine was scrap.

Hi, I have a Fiat Punto 1.2 8v (2004) which sometimes has a really bad, rough idle. Other than that the car runs fine, there`s no check engine light no excessive fuel consumption, starts quick, drives smooth. The only problem is when the car is in idle and it`s RPM starts fluctuating noticably. Specially if I put some electric load on the car.
New to this site and new to Fiat ownership. Just purchased my Punto and I noticed it was running a little rough on idle and lacked on power (not that it has much of it anyway:p). So I've changed the plugs, leads and air filter which brought back the power part but it still idles a little rough
Usually cylinder 1 or 4. Water gets into the cylinder and finds its way out of the exhaust usually as steam if the cylinder is still firing. Likewise compressed gasses get into the water systom playing havoc with water pressure , loss, overheating etc. The symptoms you decribe are classic HG failure.
